Yuen Fong Ling will explore the principals of the life drawing class through current debates affecting art practice and notions of performance and documentation, and post-production and relational aesthetics. This ongoing research forms part of his Fine Art PhD by Practice at the University of Lincoln. Titled “A Body of Relations: Reconfiguring the Life Class”, the research examines the life drawing class as a methodological structure to question the relationship between the ‘artist’, ‘model’ and ‘tutor’, where the artist’s practice, concerning the ‘relational artist’ and the ‘performative curator’, begins to reconfigure the life class.
Yuen Fong Ling (b. 1972, Salford, England) lives and works in Manchester. He studied Fashion & Textiles at Liverpool John Mooores University from 1991-94, became the Curator and Co-Director of Castlefield Gallery, Manchester from 1998-2005. He graduated from the MFA at Glasgow School of Art in 2007, and is currently undertaking Fine Art PhD by Practice at University of Lincoln 2007-ongoing. Ling has exhibited widely including solo exhibition at International-3 Manchester, and group exhibitions at Tramway Glasgow, Artnews Projects Berlin, The Central Academy of Fine Art Beijing touring throughout China, Denmark, Australia and UK, Urbis Manchester, Gasworks London, and Transmission Gallery Glasgow.
The Forum for Drawing is a research initiative which seeks to nurture a broad interpretation of drawing from hands-on pencil on paper to the digital, video and performance within the context of creative practice at London College of Fashion. It aims to foster dialogue between staff, researchers and interested students, where informal presentations of work can precipitate discussion and ideas can be exchanged. Colleagues from throughout the University are welcome. For further information, to propose a presentation or to be placed on the emailing list please contact.
