Mapping the Move
Central Saint Martins, in association with UAL Centre for Drawing, and as part of The Big Draw initiative, is launching 'Mapping the Move' on Monday October 19th 2009. Andrew Hall, Head of Illustration at CSM, is inviting CSM staff, students and alumni to create a digital and physical record of the architectural spaces at Charing Cross Road and Southampton Row, before the move to Kings Cross in 2012.
This will involve the production of one drawing per participant (max. size, A1) of a space at either site which has particular relevance to them. The image will be accompanied by 100 words of written text, explaining the relevance of the chosen subject matter to that participant. Both files will be uploaded on to the CSM website, with a hand-in of the physical art work predicted in July 2010.
'Mapping the Move' diary for this term is as follows:
Monday 19 October: 10am - Southampton Row foyer
Tuesday 20 October: 10am - Charing Cross Road foyer.
Monday 26 October: 10am - Charing Cross Road foyer.
Tuesday 27 October: 10am - Southampton Row foyer.
At these meeting points there will be a short briefing (including how to upload files) plus a form that the participant will be asked to fill in regarding contact details, choice of drawing location, and legal agreements regarding copyright, licensing and donation of physical art work to the college. Essentially the premise of the project will be that participants will 'gift' their work to the archive for posterity.
If you, your students or any alumni you are in touch with would like to be involved in this project, please email Andrew Hall by October 9th, citing which one of the four days you would like to join the project and what area you would like to draw in - this will allow time to warn CSM Course Directors of the presence of 'Mapping the Movers' in their areas.
