Aston Villa FC Collaboration: Soccasmarts
This project involves working in schools with the Community Outreach Director at Aston Villa Football Club to develop a drawing component to their sport in schools skills program. Aston Villa have put in place, as a part of the UEFA Grass Roots initiative, a sports skill learning program taught by professional sports men and women - the aim is to add to this established program a drawing component taught by artists that draws parallels between the hand, eye, (foot) co-ordination and spatial awareness required by both activities.
To establish, if when observational drawing is added as a component of Soccasmarts football skills development and monitoring frame work it can enhance the participants:
a.) understanding of the purpose of drawing
b.) accuracy as an observation driven draftsman
c.) performance within Soccasmarts junior football skills tasks.
Note: this project is a component of a larger long term research project organised through The Centre For Drawing, designed to develop a cross disciplinary secondary school drawing curriculum.
